THE SIGNATORY'S INTRODUCTION

One:28 May 2014://

I am Franklin T. Sarmiento. I am a Filipino, Kapampangan to be particular. By profession, I am an architect, and by heart, an interior designer, furniture design artist, photographer and a conceptual writer. I wish to pursue the late mentions in time. I am a son of a man who managed and operated an exporting furniture company and a woman who owned and ran a jewelry shop in the city. I am not so much associated with architects nor their closest allied and that is why me, choosing the career, was a bit“how-come”,back then. However, as a young boy, I would find myself fascinated with greatly designed houses and buildings rather than fancy cars which a typical boy would probably die for. I’d always ask mom to buy home and design magazines and leave the car magazines to my brother. I have not actually realized before who or what have influenced my love and appreciation to the arts whereas among with my siblings, they found me the weakest link in drawing. Therefore, for me to feed up my puppy insecurity, I would often trace images and show my family my self-claimed drawings. But now, I say thanks to that cheater’s escape because that perhaps has trained my hands to strike lines and curves. As I count some years and ages, mom has enrolled me to different art workshops in the city during grade school summer vacations and so gratefully, it has paid off. I grew up usually being conceived in the class as the artist representing the group in different slogan, logo, mural, drawing, coloring and name-it art related competitions. It was even boosted when I became the distinct cartoonist in our school paper, Cor Unum (meaning “one heart”) and graduated as the “Artist of the Year” awardee. These balanced exposures perhaps have brought me to realization that simply being born and raised by a couple who do not necessarily are artist by profession but un/subconsciously are. During special no-class weekdays, Papa would alternately bring one of us to his work where I am always excited about because being in a furniture factory owned by Papa’s far cousin and friend, I sort of have my little cute role playing. I would imitate the routine of Papa, roaming around the vicinity and check everyone and their work. I would even claim I am better than him as I cling to some employees I feel are kind, get cuddled and win their favors. Given that Papa is in the furniture world, our house actually looks like a small showroom of the factory where Papa is ‘cause whenever there are new release of design which Papa liked, surely he would get an actual piece. Other than that, we would spend the rest of our time with mama in our small jewelry shop especially during weekends. With the equal excitement whenever with Papa, each day to me is a little exposure trip.Since just starting the business, we among ourselves are involved. I would often see mama collect jewelry magazines and take inspirations from them as she would attempt to sketch and then outsource the production. Aside from the appreciation to the arts, I would credit some of my entrepreneurial skills to that. Also, I believe that I excel in school because of being a street-smart kid. We spend most of our young days in the main streets of Angeles City where our shop nestles. The kids’ play area of the Jollibee San Nicholas Branch which is few stalls away from ours has been my playground. Todate, life has been a twist in our family. We are no longer in the same routine as what we used to but the experiences, memories and learning surely have imparted a lot in molding me and I believe it’ll carry on.

On blogging…

Entering in the architecture world where excelling in drawings using whatever medium is not a rare “wow”. It is almost given that those who enter this field have the hands and heart to and for the arts. If not all, perhaps, many do. This, for a while, has confused me whether I am for this profession. I seldom get the warmest appreciation with my artworks since should there be, competitions must have been so tight, or at least for our batch. However, there is one thing my classmates and professors have seen unique and perhaps impressive in me: writing design concepts, abstracts, and briefs. I, too, have been appreciative of this but I do not want to dwell much on this just before because that very forte is my comfort zone. I want to expound my strength and boost any small potential. Many would intrude in my strength and feed me with criticisms that real architects doesn’t have big mouths, they let their drawings talk. I remain silent in whatever is thrown against me yet I nurture this rare gift within. But that was then, as I am on the real world now, I am on state of fair security. Somehow, I believe I am moving forward to many more. As how it is written in the bible, "You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden; No one lights a lamp and hides it, instead it is put on the lamp stand where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, your light must shine before others so they may see the goodness in you. And they will praise your Father who is in heaven.” -Matthew 5:14-16. Thus, let this blog be a magazine of the gift of wisdom and skills.

Isang blog ka lang”. This is a popular line a friend and I always remind to each other. Thanks to social media for easy access to the world but often too bad, many issues are often address here and confronted without the mediation of legal authorities. Impulsive people can say whatever story they want to invent over you and Olaah! Count some minutes and you are presumed guilty with even trending bashes. Come on! We all know this. But No! this blog does not intend to attract power and throw it to whoever I hate or simply pissed me. Let this blog be a magazine of positivism and love.

Why effes signature?

In the simplest language, a friend remembered me when she saw this line, which I think has embraced my thoughts and the totality of my decision; “The major payoff to cultivating your signature is the confidence you feel because your look and style says it all: “This who I am”. ”EFFES is a simple slang of capital F and capital S: the acronym of my name, dignified in my signature where the letters F and S are unified. My goal in this blog where I used my signature is that whichever I have blogged about are to be signed and stamped by this very signature which who knows someday people will rely on my assessment, points of view, and thoughts on particular concepts, designs and more. Thus, let this blog be a magazine of high hopes and trust in thy selves and in others.

…So I guess this is it! Have talked a lot about myself. But no worries, this isn’t a narcissistic magazine. The articles to be posted in the future will not be subjectively more about me, but rather of the observations, learning and anything of appreciation. Welcome to my blog, my love, and a part of me.

Klein, here and now, signing on://
